Drug Recalls

The current drug recall system by the MHRA is very effective within the industry channels, allowing the effective recall of drugs from manufacturers to wholesale and then to pharmacies however, patient traceability is logistically and financially red taped.

When faced with drug recalls, some pharmacists face a dilemma due to a lack of experience, while others frown due to complicated procedures and the tedious work involved, particularly when identifying patients who may have been supplied with the medication. Within the current dispensing process, there is no mechanism by which individual drugs, batch numbers etc. are aligned to a specific patient.
